Brookview Teahouse sits above the river in Matakana Village. Across Leigh Road from the bustling development of movie theatres, cafes and shops. It sits in a tranquil setting of gardens and lawn, pergolas and water features.
The historically significant 1920′s bungalow with its ornate ceilings, has been restored and refurbished to provide a unique venue.
Brookview Teahouse specialises in morning and afternoon teas and light lunches using fresh, seasonal produce, free-range eggs and the best of ingredients. A sitting could be traditional Devonshire tea, a cup of tea and a club sandwich; or perhaps the tiered Brookview Tea consisting of sandwiches, savouries, petit cakes, tea and a glass of champagne!
For lunch, you can enjoy, for example, a freshly baked tart made with home-made pastry and seasonal vegetables; a soup, a salad or a ploughman’s lunch accompanied by local wine or boutique beer. For a different teahouse experience, a selection of sushi is made daily and served with Japanese green tea.
A very favourite thing…
30 Aug ‘BEAUTIFUL EVENTS’
On my adventures I sometimes come across things that simply need to be written about. In a roundabout way, these little gems can be seen as event related. Well, they can be served at an event!
I like to think of myself as a bit of a Macaron connoisseur. I have tried the big names: Fauchon, Laudree, and the New Zealand attempts have so far never really measured up.
New Zealand macarons seem to be competing to be the smallest they can be. While some companies seem to get the flavours right, some serious tweaking is needed by others.
So in a world of hit and miss flavours, and miniscule macaron mouthfuls, the outlook was bleak.
Until I went to a little teahouse in Matakana.
The Brookview Tea House is the kind of place I would happily spend a whole day in. Delicious teas, counter ladies in aprons and welcoming smiles, and a gorgeous garden. But back to my find. I walked in the door and was greeted by a pile of plump, pastel and simply perfect macarons.
The colours were gorgeous, they were huge, and the flavours… my gosh. My bemused friend had to ask me if I was ok after I went into a blissful trancelike state from a single bite. I was in such a haze of happy that I forgot to take a photo! But then, it won’t be such a chore to go back for the photo. And a few more delicious treats.
Highly recommend a visit!
