“Rarely is an artist given an opportunity to design a major work without constraints, this commission was one of those. The whole concept of building a new cinema in a rural area is a brave and exciting one and I wanted my response to the invitation to design a group of rugs to be as celebratory as possible. The images of the horses in a pastoral setting grouped around an ‘Oscar’ statuette is the subject of the main rug, the ‘Auteur’ rug is a portrait of a film-maker and a projectionist with his film cans. The smallest rug is more horses as a film strip.” Gavin Chilcott
